Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations have kicked off smoothly in Migori and Homa Bay counties.

Presiding over the opening of the Examinations containers at Suna East Sub County on behalf of the County Commissioners, Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr. Benson Karani said he is very optimistic that the examinations will be conducted on a free and fair basis with proper supervision to curtail any form of cheating.

Mr Karani further said that security agencies have been deployed to deal with any eventuality adding that they have collaborated with examination officials to ensure all logistics are put in place to ensure papers reach more than 300 examination centers within the county.

“All stakeholders have been briefed and we are in collaboration with security personnel to ensure that the process is carried effectively in accordance with the guidelines given by the National Government to ensure smooth transmission of the examinations papers during this period,” he said.

The DCC also urged parents to be vigilant to avoid manipulation from fraudsters who may claim to sell them examination papers, giving a stern warning that legal action will be taken on those found liable of such illegal activities.

In Migori County, 36,984 candidates sat the examinations with 18,954 candidates being boys and 18,642 being girls.

Meanwhile, in Homa Bay County, Mr Moses Lilan who supervised the opening of the examination containers said the examination exercise in centers within Lake Victoria is running smoothly concurrently with their counterparts on the mainland.

Mr Lilan said that government officials manning the examination centers are on high alert on dealing with any challenge that may occur.

“All arrangements have been put in place and schools within the Islands are not disadvantaged in any way as proper security and transport has been sorted out,” he said.

37,941 candidates are sitting their KCPE in Homa Bay County while 39,584 grade six candidates are sitting KPSEA in 1,894 and 12 public and private centers respectively.

The County governor Hon. Gladys Wanga was not left behind as she took to her Facebook page account wishing all the KPSEA, KCPE and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates best of luck as they begin their examinations.

About 2,537,785 KCPE and KPSEA candidates across the country are sitting for their national examinations in 1,231,785 centers countrywide.
