Exam papers for 52 schools uncollected as national exams gain momentum

Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) scripts for 52 exam centres in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County have not been collected even as national examinations gain momentum in the rest of the country.

Speaking to the press after opening the examination container in Eldoret, Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Julius Jwan said that the exam registration was done while in Grade 3 and unfortunately most of the schools closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

“These schools closed down and learners moved to other schools. What we are going to do is to ensure the papers are kept securely and if we find any center having fewer scripts we will hand them over,” he said.

Dr. Jwan disclosed that 29,042 candidates were sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams while 29,472 candidates in the county were sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

“In Uasin Gishu, over 29, 000 pupils are sitting for KCPE and so far so good. Nothing bad has been reported. We opened the container at exactly six in the morning as required,” he said.

He noted that they have enhanced security to ensure that the examinations run smoothly until completion.

The PS warned school heads against transferring students to other schools for them to get better results.

“That is an irregularity and we will not allow it to happen. We will do our investigations and we will take stern actions against those involved,” he added.

Uasin Gishu Director of Education Muriuki Harisson warned teachers and pupils against cheating saying anybody who will be found will face the full force of the law.

“I want to give a stern warning to teachers or students planning to engage in exam malpractices that they will be arrested and charged. The cost of cheating is very expensive, we want students to get marks they have worked for,” he said.

He noted that all Standard Eight pupils who will sit for this year’s KCPE will transit to Form One regardless of the marks they will get.

“I want to assure that all students who will sit for this year’s exams will be promoted to Form One, as the government will ensure that we attain 100 per cent transition,” he said.
