Exam invigilators asked to uphold honesty, integrity

Kenyenya Sub County Commissioner Henry Rotich has urged examination invigilators to uphold integrity and honesty as they manage this year’s national examinations.

The Commissioner was speaking to more than 100 teachers who assembled at Kenyenya Secondary school in readiness to man this year’s KCSE and KCPE examinations that start on November 28.

Saying that this year’s examinations are historical because they were flagged off by the Deputy President to demonstrate the magnitude of their seriousness, the Commissioner asked teachers to sacrifice and make sure they deliver credible results by reporting any irregularity to the police for action.

He reminded teachers that since 2016, there has been sanity in the examination field as overseen by the former Education Cabinet Secretaries (CSs); Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Prof. George Magoha. He urged them to assist the current CS Ezekiel Machogu to continue with that noble legacy.

“Other people say that you are like mid wives but I say you are midwives therefore help the CS to achieve his promise,” he told them.

Flanked by his security team led by the Sub County Police Commander Mrs. Nyamora and the Sub County Crime Intelligence Officer Mr. Mukangai, he further urged them to desist from involving themselves in examination malpractices.

He assured the centre managers and supervisors of security from his team.

The Sub county Education Director George Ouma thanked the Commissioner for his initiative to provide extra security for teachers and candidate during the examinations period.

The Director cautioned candidates and their parents against con artists who may clam to have leaked examination papers.

“Our examinations are only provided by the Kenya National Examinations Office only,” he said.

Ouma revealed that his office will coordinate with security officers to monitor and gather intelligence.

Saying that teachers have been used in various activities such as the national census and elections, he expressed confidence to steward a successful examination season.
