Ex-MP Tonui mourns death of Bomet’s Ndaraweta Day Principal

The former Bomet Central Member of Parliament, MP Ronald Tonui has mourne the death of Gibson Cheruiyot, the Principal of Ndaraweta Day Secondary School in Bomet County.

In a heartfelt statement in his Facebook account, Tonui paid tribute to Cheruiyot’s remarkable contributions, noting that he had successfully transformed Ndaraweta Day Secondary School from a modest single-classroom institution with just 61 students into a thriving school of over 400 students.

He also described the departed principal as a visionary educator whose life was devoted to the transformation of learning in the region.

“Gibson was a visionary educator whose commitment to excellence in teaching and learning was evident in every aspect of his work. His leadership elevated the academic standards of the school and inspired generations of students to pursue higher education and professional careers,” Tonui said.

Tonui, who is also the National vice Treasurer of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), further highlighted Cheruiyot’s personal sacrifices in the pursuit of academic excellence.

“Cheruiyot’s commitment to the teaching profession was unparalleled. He gave his all to ensure students received quality education and to build a culture of discipline, hard work, and integrity. Tonui said that under his leadership, Ndaraweta Day Secondary School produced countless university graduates and students who excelled in mid-level colleges, demonstrating the lasting impact of his guidance.

“He was my longtime friend since our youthful days at Ndaraweta and we shared a lot. He was a highly principled person. We were in the same profession. He took his teaching professionalism seriously. Unfortunately, death always pick on anyone unannounced and at an inopportune time,” he remarked.

The former MP expressed his condolences to Cheruiyot’s family, the Ndaraweta Day Secondary School community, and the Cheswerta neighborhood, describing the loss as profound.

“We have lost a dedicated educator and a true servant leader. His life of service, professionalism, and integrity will continue to inspire educators and students alike. His death a big blow to the teaching and education sector,” he added.

The passing of Gibson Cheruiyot leaves a void not only in the school he nurtured but also in the hearts of those whose lives he touched through mentorship, guidance, and exemplary leadership.

Beyond Ndaraweta, he  also served in other institutions, including Litein Boys, leaving a lasting mark on the broader academic community.

His legacy will remain a benchmark for educational excellence in Bomet County and beyond, reminding all of the power of dedication, vision, and service to the community.
