The youth have been challenged to take their rightful position in society and champion fairness and justice in their country.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga, who talked to Rongo University students, decried rampant corruption in the country and attributed it to impunity for those in power and the lack of inclusion of the youth in the country’s development agenda.

“For one to lead successfully, they should understand the power of and the contribution that one has to make when they earn an elective position,” he said.

The former CJ appealed to the youth to embrace peace, asking them not to be compromised but to stand fearlessly against impudent systems that seduce their minds into service for political cartels.

Maraga asked students aspiring to be career lawyers to embrace sobriety, self-discipline, and focused minds to refine integrity, which is a major element in law.

The public lecture at Rongo University’s open ground attracted many University students and learners, most of whom were law and literature English teacher students.

Talking to the public in Migori town after his public talk at Rongo University, Maraga did not hesitate to answer the public’s anxiety, who wanted to know if he would run for president in 2027.

“The request has been made by many people. I am discussing it with various stakeholders before I declare my final decision,” he said.

He said he is ready to serve in the highest position in this country if people give him a chance because he has all the qualities that benefit the position.

He said that if he decided to run for president of this country, his first mission would be to eliminate corruption, which he said has been institutionalized by corrupt leaders.
