Enroll for TVET courses using Govt funding, needy students told

Nkabune TTI Principal Ms Penina Ngina welcomes new students to the college.

Nkabune Technical Training Institute (TTI) has called on form four leavers from needy backgrounds to take advantage of the government’s New Higher Education Funding (HEF) model to enroll for technical courses and gain technical skills that will elevate them in the job market.

The new Principal Ms. Peninah Ngina noted that students from needy families will receive full funding for whichever course they select under the programme.

Ngina spoke after receiving the first batch of students under the model where they will benefit from government bursaries and loans.

“As an institution, we are ready to help the students in the HEF application process. They only need to have a result slip and IDs of both parents,” she said.

The principal said that the institution has so far admitted more than 600 students from needy backgrounds.

Besides tuition money, Ngina said the students will also receive pocket money to facilitate their living expenses while in the college.

“The students will be funded based on their level of need and family background. The students will be placed in terms of income bands with those with little income at band one. We have five bands where band five indicates those with high income,” she added.

Students in band one are expected to receive a loan and bursary as well as pocket money. Students with single parents are considered at band one.

Mercy Kanini, pursuing a hospitality course. lauded Nkabune Institute for reaching out to them.

Another student, Kimathi, lauded the initiative saying that it has enabled him to pursue his dream course.
