The Chairperson of the Kenya Tourism Fund (KTF) Board of Trustees, Samson Some, has urged the youth to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and apply for courses in the hospitality industry to take advantage of the demand for human capital from abroad.
Speaking during the launch of their initiative to sponsor students at Meru National Polytechnic, Some lauded the government for the recent campaigns encouraging the youth to enroll in TVET colleges to gain in-demand technical skills.
“We shall ensure we support all TVET institutions and students in the country and bring them on board to have the required human capital, which is competitive globally,” he noted.

The Polytechnic chief principal Mutembei Kigige appreciated the sentiments by Some, expressing confidence that students in the institution undertaking hotel-related courses will secure job opportunities within and outside the country.
“Let me note that Meru National Polytechnic is also offering foreign languages to the students so as to be competitive globally. With foreign languages, we are trying to ensure that we also produce human capital for international markets,” he said.
Mutembei urged more parents to enroll their children to TVET institutions, saying that skilled labor is currently in great demand in the job market.
Harriet Makena, the county CECM for Tourism expressed gratitude to KTF for funding and facilitating students at the institution.
