Embu residents up in arms over neglect, delayed registration of school

Parents in Dallas Estate, Embu town have called on local administrators to register a neglected primary school in the area saying its classes have allegedly turned into a drug-peddling zone at night.

Dallas Primary School was established by Manyatta Constituency Development Fund but since its opening, it is yet to enroll a single student due to its unregistered status.

Area parents lamented that their children have been trekking far distances in the quest for education.

Polly Muthoni, an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teacher at a nearby school said that more than 200 learners have gone through pre-primary classes but could not transit to primary level.

“This ECDE centre was started at the same time with the primary school but learners cannot proceed since the school is not registered,” she said.

Muthoni urged the government to move with speed and document the school for the benefit of the children.

Shabaan Kamotho, a resident, said that the area Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji should spearhead registration of the school.

“Our children are crossing main roads which are very risk but we have a school they should be learning from,” he said.

Kamotho said that the government had used a lot of money to put up infrastructure at the school and cannot be let to go to waste.

Kirimari Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Ibrahim Swaleh said that it was unfortunate to see such a school die.

Swaleh, who is also Deputy Speaker of the Embu County Assembly, said that if registered the school will help many area students and also improve education standards.
