Embu governor Cecily Mbarire has revoked licenses for two clubs found selling alcohol to 28 high school students in Runyenjes town.

Speaking at University of Embu to a group of farmers while issuing a cheque worth Ksh 125.87 million from the National Agricultural Rural Inclusive Growth Project, Mbarire said ‘Oxic 14’ and ‘Tropical’ clubs had gone against the law to sell alcohol to school children and that no clubs shall be given licenses to destroy lives of young children.

“I have directed the County Executive Committee Member for Trade to revoke licenses for the clubs. We cannot entertain this,” she said.

The governor said the two closed clubs will serve as an example to other bar operators.

Her sentiments were echoed by Embu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara who said it was devastating to see young people in entertainment joints.

Kihara urged parents to closely monitor their children especially in this holiday season so they do not engage in activities that may jeopardize their academic life.

Police in Runyenjes arrested 28 high school students on Sunday night after they were found partying in the clubs.

While confirming the incident Embu East Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Jane Waruige said the students were 21 boys and 7 girls.

Ms. Waruige said some students are candidates who will be sitting their KCSE exams and the rest from other classes.
