Embrace community schools, parents told

Parents from Bassi Chache ward in Bobasi sub-county, Kisii County have been challenged to embrace local community schools instead of shunning them in favour of schools outside the area.

Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon John Sambo has decried the worrying trend where parents are enrolling their children in secondary schools outside the area, starving their own schools of learners in the pretext of protesting against poor performance.

Addressing community members during a consultative meeting held at Giasaiga Resource Centre, Sambo warned local communities against politicizing education institutions and instead called for sober engagements among all stakeholders to iron out thorny administrative and academic performance issues affecting local schools.

Responding to concerns raised by a section of residents on the fate of Christ The Teacher Kenyoro D.O.K Mixed Secondary school in the area, whose enrolment was on the downward trend following mass transfer of students to other schools, he challenged them and other stakeholders to come to the rescue of the school by enrolling students to the school.

“I have taken note of your concerns pertaining the fate and performance of our local schools within my ward, particularly the case of Christ The Teacher Kenyoro DOK Mixed Secondary School,” stated Sambo.

The MCA advised local parents to start a positive conversation on how to redeem and turn around the performance of local schools as they will provide a future soft landing ground for children who might not afford costly school fees from other schools.
