Elgeyo Marakwet county signs MoU to airlift students to USA

Elgeyo MoU

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USA-based Harding University which will see the county airlift its students for studies and employment opportunities.

“This evening I signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Assistance Vice President for Enrolment Services Mr. David Hull and Dean of International Education Dr. David Collins. The agreement will see students from Elgeyo Marakwet County take their studies at the university at a subsidized cost,” said the governor in Iten after the signing event.

The new deal is a project under the governor’s PEPEA programme which involves airlifting students overseas to undertake sponsored programmes and will be employed upon finishing their studies.

The deal will see parents pay only 38 per cent of the sum and the rest catered for by the county.

“We have negotiated with Harding University for a 62 per cent sponsorship, with parents paying only 38 per cent. This is our inaugural partnership with a USA university,” Mr. Rotich said.

At the same time, the county has MoUs with different universities in Canada including North Island-Vancouver, Northern Lights Collage in British Colombia and Thompson Rivers University.
