In a moment of pride for Kenya’s technical and vocational education sector, the Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has been honoured by Africa for SDGs in collaboration with the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) for its exemplary commitment to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
The polytechnic was named the Best Institution in the Environmental Impact Category at the 2025 Africa for SDGs Awards, held on October 23, 2025, at St. Paul’s University, Nairobi.

The event, themed “Celebrating Impact Towards Transformed and Sustainable Communities,” brought together leading educators, innovators, and sustainability champions from across the continent.
“This recognition deeply humbles us,” said Jonathan Ngenoh, the institution’s Greening Champion and Environment Officer, who was also crowned the ESD Teacher of the Year.

“This award is not just for me, but for every student and staff member who plants a tree, innovates, or recycles waste to make our campus greener.”
Another notable awardee from TENP was Walter Kiptoo, who was recognised as the ESD Fellow of the Year for his dual-yield crop grafting project.

Adding to the celebration, Bilha Kalumba, a trainee at TENP, graduated with an Online Diploma in Leadership and Development (LADA) offered by Africa for SDGs and its international partners.

The chief guest at the awards ceremony, Jamie Radtke, the CEO and President of Global Media Outreach, congratulated the honorees and commended TENP for demonstrating that TVET institutions can lead the sustainability agenda.
