Eight schools in Teso North Constituency, Busia County have received new classrooms worth KSh2.1 million each under a project jointly funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and the Ministry of Education.
The commissioning was launched last week by area MP Dr. Oku Kaunya at Kisiombe Comprehensive School in Changara, before moving to Kakurikit Comprehensive and Primary School in Angurai. The rollout continued at Kasogol Kapel in Kocholia and Amagoro Comprehensive and Primary School in Amagoro.
This week, Dr. Kaunya is expected to open additional classrooms at Akiriamasit Primary, Arthur Odera in Osajai, and Akibui in Kakapel.
While hailing the developments, the legislator defended the CDF’s role in improving education and warned against its possible scrapping.

“It’s unfortunate the CDF fund is facing extinction. We passed the bill to retain it, and we expect the Senate to back us. Wananchi should judge harshly those who oppose it,” he said.
Beyond new classrooms, five schools including Kasogol Kapel, Akudiet, Kalalaram, Koteko and Kokare each received Ksh1 million for renovations. Amagoro Comprehensive is also lined up for a major upgrade, with parents pushing for a storeyed building while students demand a school bus.
Dr. Kaunya said more laboratories will be built across the constituency, adding that education investments will be paired with initiatives like avocado farming to boost livelihoods.
Amagoro Primary School is set to host a major Teso cultural festival in September 2025, drawing leaders from Africa and the diaspora.
