Education taskforce popularity takes shape

By Amoto Ndiewo

The task force on education has hit the ground running, judging from media host programmes that invite opinion leaders to air their views on topical issues.

It was highly illustrated by Prof Rotich Jerono, a don at the University of Indiana in the United States of America, during one of the local television breakfast shows.

The professor said in the current global village where time is money, there is neither room nor time to play about the lives of young people.

Rotich expressed happiness that the government is committed   to a CBC review rather than scrapping it altogether.

“We are talking to everyone and everybody in the diaspora before we submit our report,’’ she added.

Looking far and wide in comparison, Rotich said the American education system is skill-based and offers a wide range of choices to learners, just as the original 8.4.4 and the CBC.

“Unfortunately, 8.4.4 was competence-based but lacked facilities before it dipped to five academic subjects,’’ noted Rotich, who hopes CBC lives up to its billing as a better choice to improve learner experience.
