Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in Tana River County have been urged to help put up modern infrastructure in literacy centers to enhance education levels in the region.

Speaking to Education News from Hola, Tana River County director of Adult Education Mrs. Mary Komora lamented that many adult education learners in the county learn under trees and open air places.

‘Some of the learners take their lessons while seated on logs, stones and dusty floors.’ She said.

She further stated that the current situation has adversely discouraged many learners from attending their daily lessons in the literacy centers in the region.

She revealed that churches and schools in the county have allowed the Adult Education department to use their structures as classrooms to accommodate the adult learners.

“Modern infrastructure in the literacy centres will definitely encourage adult learners to attend their lessons regularly since the learning environment will be conducive for them,” she explained.

She asked all adult education stakeholders in the county to cooperate and ensure that they equip all the literacy centres with essential physical learning facilities so as to promote education in the region.

‘Education is the only fundamental key factor towards achieving rapid development in the county and country at large. ‘She added.
