Rift Valley Regonal Commissioner, Maalim Mohamed, has thanked education stakeholders in Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties for their efforts in restoring peace and ensuring candidates sit their national examinations successfully despite rampant insecurity in the region.

Mohamed said efforts and cooperation from Regional Security Intelligent Committee, Regional Director of Education and Regional Director of Teacher Service Commission made it possible for school children to sit their national examinations.

While addressing the press in his office in Nakuru City, the Regional Commissioner said the government provided candidates with accommodation and meals during the examination period which made majority of them to perform better than students in areas where there is adequate security.

“I commend security agency and education stakeholder for a well done job through provision of enough accommodations and meals for our children during examination period” said Mohamed.

He said the government has beef up security in the affected areas as schools are preparing to open for 2022 academic year by deploying special units and Kenya Police Reserves to restore security.

“We have deploy special unit team and hundreds of Kenya Police Reserve (KPR) to ensure that when schools are opened, the learning process will proceed in the whole parts of Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet counties undisrupted.” said Mohamed.

He also took the opportunity to congratulate KCPE candidates in the affected counties for their good performance in the national examinations.

“We as government are happy to hear that the candidates in the areas affected by security performed well than those who were enjoying peace”, he said.

He urged Baringo County Commissioner to engage all stakeholders in peace making process to allow other people who have not settle to their home to settle in order to continue with their day-to-day activities.

“I want to urged Baringo County Commissioner and his team to engage all stakeholders and conduct security assessment to ensure people go back to their homes because a child can go to school when parents go to their initial home,” said Regional Commissioner.

He also urged elders in security prone areas to corporate with security agencies to restore peace.
