Education PS warns teachers against assaulting students

By John Njoroge

Teachers found assaulting and causing physical harm to pupils would be held accountable, Education Principal Sectrtary Belio Kipsang has warned.
Speaking at Muchorwe Secondary School in Kuresoi North, the PS said teachers should not punish the pupils or students because the basic Education Act is against it.
“Corporal punishment is not allowed in schools, but students should maintain discipline,’ said Dr Kipsang. He said the incident where a minor was assaulted by three teachers in Nyandarua County would be dealt with accordingly. Dr Kipsang directed all the ceducation teams in conjunction with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to collect all the necessary discipline cases from schools.
The PS assured parents that the examinations integrity would be sustained and maintained adding that no one would be allowed to spoil the future of students.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker and Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi said students would be issued with a National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) cover that will cater for their treatment.
The MP called on the Ministry of Education to allow some of the teachers who are performing well in their schools not to be delocalised. “Even though every teacher can be posted and work at any part of the country, let the teachers in this area deliver what they have started and the goodwill they have for our students and the community,’’ said Cheboi.
He said a modern twin lab would be built at the school which would be good enough to serve the more than 300 students.
