Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has emphasised that prioritising education is crucial for Kenya to achieve the Singapore dream.

President William Ruto has recently pledged to make Kenya develop like Singapore.

Speaking at AIC Kariobangi in Machakos Town, Mwangangi noted that Singapore’s success under Lee Kuan Yew was largely due to its focus on education.

“Lee Kuan Yew prioritised education, which propelled Singapore’s rapid development. Kenya should have made education free up to university level by now, building on gains made during President Mwai Kibaki’s era,” Mwangangi said.

He expressed concern about the Ministry of Education’s circular announcing fee increases in schools starting in January, saying it will burden parents facing economic hardship.

“Servant leadership is what Kenya needs, not leaders prioritising selfish interests,” Mwangangi added, after commissioning a new gate at the church.
