West Pokot County Director of Education (CDE), Simon Wamae has cautioned school heads from the region against sending learners away due to nonpayment of school fees.
Wamae instead advised the managers to handle fee matters with parents or guardians.
Speaking during a Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) conference in Kisumu, Wamae said it was a government policy that no learner is sent home over nonpayment of fees.
The CDE also advised principals to make use of available resources in their establishments to ensure smooth running of schools.
He said the resources in question should be mapped and documented with their inventories well kept.
Wamae who was flanked by West Pokot KESSHA Vice Chairman, Joshua Kipkemei indicated that school managers should be influencers and not bosses, saying that school heads should be benchmarking in order to learn from their peers.
He said that school heads in the region should ensure they are always within their areas of jurisdictions.
The CDE asked them to ensure there is utmost transparency in the management of their institutions in order to earn the confidence of learners by influencing them.
“You should be role models in whatever you do in order to earn the confidence of both teachers and students,” he said.
Kipkemei said many heads are working under fear due to ultimatums given by parents over performance issues.
The official advised his members to be very firm in the course of discharging their duties.
