Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has warned examination candidates and stakeholders against examination malpractice in the upcoming main national examinations, saying stern action will be taken against them.

The CS pointed out that part of the examinations in some subjects was ongoing, adding that the main examination is scheduled to begin next month, and appealed to parents and guardians to support their children with the required items to enhance their performance.

He said 3.4 million candidates in primary, Junior secondary and secondary schools are set to sit the examinations, noting that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has deployed invigilators and supervisors across the country to ensure it is done smoothly.

“ I appeal to parents and guardians to pray for the children and encourage them to prepare well, pass the examinations to realise their dreams”, Ogamba said at Kiabonyoru Boys Secondary School during a groundbreaking ceremony to construct Nyamira University College,  graced by the Defence Cabinet Secretary, Roselinda Soipan Tuya.

The University noted that the CS will be a constituent College of Kisii University, headed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Ogechi. It stressed that the first batch of 1000 students will be admitted next year.

He appealed to leaders to embrace the politics of development and support President William Ruto’s government so the community can benefit from national development, noting that the university’s construction has been delayed for 13 years.

“ The government is upgrading Suneka airstrip and relocating Kisii prison to pave the way for affordable housing to foster air transport, create jobs and provide our people with affordable houses”, Ogamba said.

Tuya said the Ministry of Defence and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will provide technical support to the Ministry of Education in the first phase of the project, adding that residents will be employed during the construction of the College.
