Education CS Ogamba launches 2025 National Examinations season, warns against fake papers

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has officially opened the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season at New Mitihani House, Nairobi, with the Ministry cautioning learners and parents about fake exam papers circulating online.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has on Friday, September 3, 2025, officially inaugurated the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season during a ceremony held at the New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi.

In a statement posted on X on October 3, 2025, the Ministry of Education said the event signalled the start of a coordinated Whole-of-Government initiative to guarantee smooth and credible administration of this year’s national examinations and assessments.

“This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, launched the 2025 National Examinations and Assessment Season at the New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi. This marks the formal commencement of the Whole-of-Government effort to deliver seamless and credible national examinations and assessments,” the ministry said.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had earlier issued a warning to the public regarding counterfeit exam papers circulating on social media platforms ahead of the national tests.

The ministry further disclosed that the first-ever Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will involve 1,130,669 candidates. It also noted that 1,298,089 learners will take the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), while 996,078 students will take the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

“The inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment will have 1,130,669 learners. Another 1,298,089 learners will sit the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, while 996,078 candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination.”

According to the Ministry, this year’s multi-agency collaboration aims to safeguard the integrity of the assessments and ensure they truly reflect learners’ efforts.

The ministry also confirmed that the launch was attended by the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) alongside other top education stakeholders. The event underscored the government’s continued dedication to transparency, credibility, and high standards in examinations.

“The event was attended by, among others, the Chairman of KNEC, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, the KNEC CEO, Dr David Njengere and the acting CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, Ms Evaleen Mitei,” it added.
