The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Education, led by Tindiret MP Julius Melly, on July 15, visited the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) on a routine oversight mission.
The team was received by Acting Director General Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, senior management, and Board Session Chairperson Eng. Dr. Edward Odhong.
According to the organization the fruitful meeting saw the Committee review TVETA’s progress, budget absorption, and current challenges facing the sector
Delays in operationalizing TVET institutes within universities, lack of adequate infrastructure, insufficient equipment, and staffing shortages are among the agenda of the meeting.

The Committee was taken through the challenges facing TVETA including persistent underfunding, especially in county-based Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), which are crucial in expanding access to technical skills.
The visit is part of the Committee’s mandate to assess institutions under the education sector and ensure accountability. Members acknowledged TVETA’s role in ensuring quality and relevance in training,
It is believed that the visit will see solutions to the challenges faced by the institution. Vocational training is a call spearheaded by the national government led by the president, the 100% transition in all levels of education began during Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime saw TVETs attract a large number of students.
