The National Assembly Education Committee has lauded the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for the introduction of a mid-year KCSE examination, set to take place annually in July.

Chairperson Julius Melly said that newly introduced mid-year KCSE exams will provide students disoriented by sickness, births, or any other situation another chance to bring out their best under better conditions.

“The mid-year KCSE exams will give candidates, who missed the exams for whatever reason a chance to shape their future. Imagine a girl who gave birth and is required to do exams. Is this possible? No. So such candidates need more time to get well,” said Melly.

He added that Education sector is currently undergoing various reforms, which include implementation of Curriculum Based Competence (CBC) system and university funding model among others.

While announcing 2024 KCSE exams on January 9, 2025 at Mitihani House in Nairobi, the Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Ogamba said that starting this year, KNEC will introduce mid-year KCSE exams to hold in July every year.

The examinations target people with sickness and those who wish to repeat Form Four.
