Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has emphasized the importance of educating girls in society, noting that if it were not for education, she and other women leaders wouldn’t have reached their current levels.
Chidzuga, who was speaking during a community outreach event held at Mwandimu, Ndavaya in Kwale County, highlighted the critical role that education plays in shaping the future of girls, especially in rural areas where cultural barriers and poverty often hinder their progress.
She praised county women leaders like Governor Fatuma Achani as a shining example of what girls can achieve when given access to education and equal opportunities.
“Our governor is a living testimony that when a girl is educated, the whole community benefits,” she said.
She said that Achani broke through many odds to rise to the position of leadership, and that should inspire parents to invest in their daughters’ education.

Chidzuga urged local leaders, religious figures, and parents to collaborate to ensure that girls are not left behind, particularly in a fast-changing world where education is central to development.
“We cannot talk about national growth or women’s empowerment if our girls are still being married off young or denied school fees,” she added.
She further pointed out that many girls in remote areas still face challenges such as early marriages and teenage pregnancies, factors that significantly contribute to high dropout rates.
According to her, the issues must be addressed collectively to create a supportive environment for the girl child to thrive.
Chidzuga called on parents to take advantage of the numerous bursary and scholarship programs offered by county and national governments to strengthen the education of girls from low-income households.
She also lauded the efforts by the national government to provide job skills in various TVET institutions.
Chidzuga advised both girls and boys to enrol themselves in TVETs to get appropriate job skills to enable them to secure employment opportunities and shun violence.
She further urged young girls to remain focused on their dreams and to view education as a key that opens doors to a brighter future.
Chidzuga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and equal opportunities.
