Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s wife,Ida Odinga, has called on communities to support the education of the girl child, saying it is a powerful tool for societal transformation. She made the remarks on Friday while presiding over a funds drive at Bishop Simon Oruba Girls’ School in Migori County to improve the school’s infrastructure.
Ida, a former high school teacher, emphasized that educating girls uplifts the world because women often carry knowledge and influence across different regions after marriage.
” Educating a girl is tantamount to educating the whole nation because she will be married to other places after completing her education.” she said.
Addressing students directly, Mama Ida encouraged girls to embrace science and technical subjects that lead to careers in engineering, medicine, aviation and law, adding that such careers can help break the cycle of poverty in their families.
She urged leaders in Nyanza to unite and push for equitable distribution of government resources to empower their communities. She stressed that every child, regardless of background, has the potential to succeed if provided with a supportive environment, shelter, security, food and care.

He pledged to work closely with the national government to expand bursary allocations for needy students and cited the ongoing school milk program in Migori as a sign of the region’s growing inclusion in national development.
