ECDE learners to enjoy nutritious porridge in Murang’a

Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata addressing an ECDE school project meeting

The Governor of Murang’a County Francis Irungu Kang’ata has allocated a significant budget to provision of nutritious porridge to learners in ECDE schools, helping to alleviate food shortages in impoverished households.

He said that this initiative has significantly increased the popularity of the schools among parents, with over 42,000 children benefiting from the county-funded feeding program.

Kang’ata further emphasized the necessity of providing this level of education with the right facilities and engaging teaching tools that cater to young learners.

He pointed out that ECDE had suffered from insufficient funding, often relying on community efforts to construct basic classroom structures and facilities, resulting in a subpar learning environment.

The Governor further highlighted that his government has already successfully rehabilitated 126 nursery classrooms and enhanced educational facilities across the county’s 35 wards.

In recognition of these efforts to promote children’s right to unhindered access to education, Murang’a County was honored with the Kifaru award at the recent devolution conference.
