Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kyuso branch Executive Secretary Onesmus Nzau has called upon parents to support school management in terms of developments.
Noting that some parents are obstinately against school developments, he said such ones should be ignored and/or be helped to understand the importance of developments in schools.
The unionist observed that in some schools even renovation alone is a big deal, leave alone construction of new buildings since some parents always think negatively about how the school management spends the money alocated.
“I encourage the corporation of parents when it comes to development in our schools. Let all us be tolerant with each other as long as misappropriation of funds is not involved. Those parents who are out to mislead others should stop and learn to appreciate the efforts of the schools management teams,” He added.
He observed that children lost a lot during the covid-19 break and should be given enough time to study as he calling upon parents to use modern ways in solving problems rather than withdrawing their children from classes.
The unionists called upon donors and the government to help ensure that learners access clean water since there has been many absenteeism cases caused by contaminated water related sicknesses.
Apparently, he called for reinstatement of school feeding programme saying the rains are not enough and farmers will definitely harvest nothing due to prolonged dry season with insufficient rainfall in areas like Thagichu, Kyuso, Mumoni and Tseikuru.
“Trust me the many learners are now transferring a few schools under feeding programme leaving those schools with only few learners. Others opt to drop out of school since there is nothing at home and no food in school,” Said Nzau.
