Don’t make candidates repeat class 8, KEPSHA chair warns

By Agnes Orang’o

Parents have been warned against pressuring their children who sat for KCPE exams into repeating classes.

Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) Kangundo sub county Chairman John Ndambuki told Education News that some parents were asking their children who had not achieved their target marks to repeat.

He noted that repeating is not a guarantee of more marks and that parents should instead ensure realization of the 100 percent transition policy.

“I have noted that some students are worried about the marks they got. I would like to tell them that this is just the beginning and a bright future awaits them,” he said.

He added; “Our top student got 393 marks and most of them scored over 300 marks. They look discouraged but I want to tell them that they did well and should look forward to joining secondary schools. All I can urge them is not to focus on the marks but rather the schools they will join.”

“As for parents, all these students should join secondary schools and no one should repeat or stay at home despite the marks they got. This is the time for parents to prepare their children. We have seen students who went to secondary schools with 200 marks scoring As and Bs,” he continued.

A similar direction was given by Tala Township Primary school head teacher Jonathan Muli.

Muli confirmed that two pupils got over 400 marks while most of them scored over 350 marks.

“We had 236 candidates and they all performed exemplarily. We are happy with the results and hope for the best in the future,” he said.
