Prof Johana Sigey, Director, JKUAT Kisii Campus has hailed the Equity Afia medical team after they recently held a one day training at the school on mental health, stress management and life style disease control.

The Professor, who is a mathematician, thanked the team for sharing with students and staff the importance gained on mental health disease awareness.

Kisii campus offers courses in the medical related field on community health disciplines, microbiology and ICT which starts with certificate, diploma, degrees, masters and postgraduate levels.

The Equity Afia medical team is made up of former Wings-to-Fly sponsored students who have received enough training and are now giving back to communities.

The health talk to JKUAT students and staff was led by Dr. Gregory Magare and Moffat of Equity Afia.

Past mistakes or experiences may be a major cause of depression in cases where some individuals might have gone through trauma, sexual violence, witnessed murder, or domestic violence.

The team focused on enlightening students on depression which leads to intensely sad moods, hopelessness, absence of pleasure, feeling of dejection, insomnia and lack of motivation and how to fight the disease.

The medic warned that usually, suicidal ideas or a depressed mind may lead to suicide, something which, they said, can be solved through talks or one seeing a psychologist for social support.
