Do not send students home, MP tells school principals

Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze has called upon secondary school heads to stop sending students home for failure to pay school fees.

She was speaking during the start of bursary allocation to secondary, university and college students at Kalimani, Matinyani, Mutulu and Kauma location, an exercise which will take a whole week.

Nyenze gave her reactions following the directive by Education CS George Magoha, urging children to remain in school as government is going to dispatch capitation to schools and that there was no need of children being sent home.

The lawmaker reminded the school heads that bursaries are still being allocated to students and they should be patient as they plan to give out bursaries worth Sh35 million this year alone.

“I know last time we allocated same amount of bursary to orphans and other needy students, this time round we will consider them to get higher allocation to enable them clear their fees easily,” she added.

She further said that parents are still trying their level best to make sure they pay fee to keep their children in school.

“This term is very short and we can’t afford to keep on seeing children heading home. Skipping a lesson is not good and they may not recover what will be lost,” she added.
