The Teachers Service Commission has warned politicians against politicizing education issues concerning hiring and deployment of human resource.

The Chairperson of TSC Jamleck Muturi said politicians tend to interfere with staffing issues in some parts of the country, warning that such interferences compromises provision of quality education.

Speaking in Iten when he paid courtesy call to Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos, Muturi observed that during electioneering period, politicians interfere with trends and patterns of educational activities that influences political decisions. He said this while responding  to what he termed as pressure and crises to ward off public concerns.

He called on the leaders to use proper channel in addressing educational concerns rather than politicking.

“There are better ways of channeling the complaints to the commission without necessarily bashing teachers on the social media platforms,” Muturi remarked.

The commission toured the county in its routine visits aimed at finding ways to improve standards and quality of education by strengthening teacher performance systems.

The meeting deliberated on challenges faced by the county in the quest of offering education. Governor Tolgos singled out insecurity around the Kerio Valley region, that has made students move from one institution to another in search of a conducive environment for learning.

He called on the commission to consider staffing of the affected area to ensure that students learn despite the natural and human caused calamities in the region.

While applauding the delocalization policy employed by TSC, Tolgos called on the commission to give specialty to the region, saying the area was in need of staff from the locality that understand the challenges and its terrains.
