Calm has been restored at Masikonde Primary School in Narok County following consultations between parents, the school management, and stakeholders after last week’s standoff over a proposed centralized payment for lockers.

Narok Town Ward MCA Douglas Masikonde, an alumnus of the institution, visited the school on Monday and held talks with the Board of Management (BoM) to address concerns raised by parents.

The proposal, which sought to introduce centralized payments to ensure uniform lockers and gradually replace metal lockers with desks, had sparked resistance among parents.

According to the school management, the proposal was motivated by increasing cases of vandalism linked to the scrap metal trade, which has not only led to the loss of lockers but also damage to classroom floors.

However, following dialogue, the BoM agreed to set aside the proposal in the spirit of harmony and cooperation.

Speaking during the visit, MCA Masikonde called on parents, teachers and school leadership to prioritize dialogue, unity and mutual understanding for the good of learners.

He lauded the school’s transformation over the last nine years under the leadership of Headteacher Madam Kamamia, noting that Masikonde Primary has emerged as one of the best-performing schools in Narok County.

“While we acknowledge the current economic challenges facing parents, it is important to appreciate that development initiatives by the Board of Management and the school administration are aimed at improving learning conditions for our children,” he said.

The MCA congratulated teachers and the school leadership for their dedication and outstanding performance, urging all stakeholders to maintain a respectful and cooperative working relationship.

As part of his visit, Masikonde donated a water tank to the school, describing it as a personal contribution in his capacity as an alumnus.

He further encouraged fellow alumni and well-wishers to support the institution, which currently serves over 2,450 pupils with more than 60 teachers.

“Together, let us protect, support, and grow Masikonde Primary School for the benefit of our children and future generations,” he added.
