Kisii County Director of Education Pius Ngoma has issued a stern warning to individuals intending to tamper with the ongoing national examinations.
The officer, who led other education and security officers to flag off the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations, said this was a very crucial time that needs collective participation from all stakeholders for its success.
He expressed satisfaction for the support given by all education stakeholders and wished them to continue with the same spirit.
The officer revealed that the county was presenting 40,120 candidates for the KCPE examinations where 19,992 are girls while the rest are boys and 36,534 pioneer candidates for the KPSEA examinations where 19,705 are boys while the remaining 18,629 candidates are girls.
“These are our first fruits in the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and I hope they will make us proud,” he said.
He appealed to all residents to provide a conducive environment for the candidates by minimizing disturbance in all social places.
Others who wished the candidates’ good luck include Kisii-based Priest Fr. Lawrence Nyaanga who asked the church to pray for their success.
Fr. Nyaanga, who doubles as the Kisii University Chaplain, asked parents to accord their children with parental love because it has a big impact in their lives as they grow.
He asked them to monitor their movements when they are at home for the long holidays by directing them to church activities in order to shape their character as they grow.
Kisii County Woman Representative Doris Aburi asked candidates to be confident and approach the examinations with courage.
Ibeno ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Stephen Arika said that teachers and parents had played their role by preparing the candidates well and challenged them to confirm those efforts by posting good results.
“We prayed and supported them with physical materials to face the examinations. Now we hope they will do well,” said Arika.
The MCA promised that his office will continue providing bursaries to the bright students who come from needy homes to continue with their education.
