Director urges parents to embrace, enrol children in TVET colleges

Parents in the Coast region have been asked to embrace and encourage their children who did not attain direct university entry to enrol in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges to acquire technical skills in various fields.

Speaking to Education News in Mombasa town recently, Coast Regional TVET Director Mr. Peter Mwangi said that this will enable them to acquire basic skills that will help them earn a living and in turn uplift their living standards.

He lamented that many youth loiter in the streets of urban centres and worried for their future.

The Director further urged all TVET stakeholders in the region to work as a team to ensure they create awareness campaigns to entice the youth to join the colleges as technical skills are currently in demand in the job market.

Mwangi told parents that the government is currently providing TVET students with bursaries thus they should not be worried about payment of fees.
