The Kakamega County Deputy Governor has asked President Ruto to do away with Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) syllabus in Kenya, saying that it is becoming a burden to parents.
Speaking during the World Water Day at Malava sub county, the Deputy Governor (DG), Ayub Savula, alluded that the CBC system had failed and was a big luggage to the common mwananchi, owing to the exorbitant costs met on parents.
“Your Parliamentary task force on education sent to Kakamega county has our views and we are of the opinion that the syllabus is a huge setback to the education sector in the country burdening parents financially in these harsh economic times,” said the DG.
Savula stated that as a county, they gave out their views to the Parliamentary Education Committee on their take on the syllabus which has received an equal share of both criticism and praise from the stakeholders who are calling for its proper re-alignment and implementation.
“The team from your office here in Kakamega County has met to brainstorm about the syllabus and has come out clearly with their views that CBC is huge, basing on financially implications and is not meant for the country at the moment,” he added.
The county leader said that it was important to be honest as a country over the issue of CBC implementation and give it time until Kenyans are ready.
On bursary issues, he confirmed that their government had increased the county Kitty from Ksh. 2M to 4Million per ward to ensure education gets to all.
Savula said they were on point to make sure they reach out to all the citizens through the increase of bursary allocation.
“Education is among our key pillars as a county and we are working towards bolstering it across through such programmes,”
The Parliamentary task force was in Kakamega to collect views on how KCSE 2022 was conducted after it emerged that there was likelihood of cheating.
