Destroy success cards bearing portraits of politicians – Prof. Magoha

By Allan Kibet

The Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has given out a directive to all teachers to destroy candidate’s success cards bearing images of politicians.

The Cabinet Secretary was speaking in Mwiyala Secondary School in Kakamega County where he also directed education officers across the country to partner with County Commissioners to destroy such cards before they get to schools. He was the Chief Guest at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Competency Based Development (CBC) classes at the institution.

“Destroy any success card sent to students bearing political portraits without any fear or favor. Our children are not in politics, they are just children,” said the CS.

Magoha said that in the election year where the country’s leadership is expected to change hands should not bring panic among learners and education stakeholders, assuring that whoever takes leadership will support the process of learning.

“We are heading to a transition period in our country and politicians are politicians, one can come up with his or her own views which may disrupt the education of our children. As civil servants, we are mandated to ensure continuous roll out of government programmes and we appeal to those who will take over after President Kenyatta’s term elapses to ensure the already existing programmes proceed without interference,” added Education CS.

He further asked the candidates sitting for final examinations as from March not to be scared but be confident as the government has taken care of the academic timelines.

Last week, the ministry of education released the crash academic calendar including examination dates in an academic year that would have four school terms.

When national examinations are around the corner in an election year in the country, politicians are used to sharing success cards bearing their portraits as a way of passing their campaign message.
