Deputy heads reminded of their vital role in schools

Deputy Principals in secondary schools, have been reminded of their vital roles of creating harmony at their respective institutions.

While addressing more than 40 Deputy Principals from Kenyenya Sub-county during their annual retreat, Kisii County Director of Education Mr. Pius Ngoma highlighted the major disciplinary services offered by the deputies as very important.

“Yours is a very pivotal role in the the day to day running of our schools,” he said.

The Education Director outlined the duties of these deputies as that of formulating the aims and objectives of their schools and establishing the policies through which the aims and objectives will be attained.

Other roles played by the educators he said, were the management and harnessing of resources to stabilize their schools to enable them achieve better education standards. 

He encouraged the deputy principals to embrace professional team work among the staff in their institutions because they are entitled to take the professional duties of the principal when he or she is absent.

On his part, the chairman of the Deputy Principal’s Association Mr. Lukas Maburi thanked the Ministry of Education for providing enough text books to schools which he said will assist them to meet the 1:1 book distribution ratio to students for effective learning.

“These are important teaching tools the government has given to enable us produce quality grades from our schools,” he commented.

Mr. Maburi who is the Deputy Principal of St. Edward Nyabioto Secondary school in Bomachoge Chache constituency encouraged his colleagues to support sports in their schools because it brings cohesion among students and the community.

He said that his organization that was formed seven years ago, has helped members to socialize and share their professional experiences.

He gave hints of their future plans to turning the organization into a SACCO that will enable members to save and to benefit themselves with their families
