First KNUT National Woman Representative, Mercy Kiambati has strongly opposed the ongoing delocalization of teachers saying it is breaking families.
Kiambati who spoke at Nguumo Girls secondary as she presided over Kibwezi branch Knut elections said the move is doing more harm than good to many teachers.
The 1st national women representative said many partners are coping with tough lifestyle in their new areas. She said conjugal rights are basic in every family and many couples have ended up breaking due to that distance.
She said many teachers were forced to quit Knut and called upon those who were forced to leave to join the union.
“They fear us because we set the pace and keep them on their toes. We won’t relent, we will continue fighting for our rights,” she added.
She however said it’s so unfair for teachers to attend CBC training over the weekend when they are supposed to be resting.
“Weekends are for prayers: SDA on Saturday and the rest in Sundays,” she noted.
In the elections all the members retained their seats apart from that of the vice chairman which went to Joseph Mutua who was contesting against Daniel Mulei.
