Dedan Kimathi University to build Sh6.5 billion science hub

Ministry of Education has launched the construction of Sh6.5 billion Science Park at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT).

Zakayo Igana, director in the Ministry in charge of Research and Education, recently handed over the construction site to the contractor.

He was in the company of the University Vice-Chancellor Ndirangu Kioni.

The project will be constructed on a 177-1cre piece of land and is expected to be complete by Agust 2022. The Science and Technology Park is the second of the kind to be established in the country, and the entire project will occupy 270 acres.

This new development will help build on the existing University Innovation and Incubation Hub (DeHUB) to a great extent and take the University to the point of strength in living its vision.

DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme.

The University has a magnificent Resource Centre, a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories, and offices for both administrative and academic staff.

It has also put up expansive and well-equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories.
