Deal ruthlessly with indiscipline cases, Schools management asked

By Enock Okong’o.

Kisii county Education Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi has appealed to Principals and their school management committees to be strict and deal with school arson culprits mercilessly.

Speaking at his Kisii office the chairman said the ugly incidents of torching schools was becoming chronic in the country and called for consolidated effort from all stakeholders to stop the menace.

He wondered how rogue students could be exonerated on the basis of being minors yet they were able to plan and successfully burn schools.

“They should just face the law in court instead of being treated as minors and eventually go scot-free.” He said

He asked the ministry of education to employ the National youth service to nab arsonists in schools.

“The disciplined group from the NYS can be admitted in our secondary schools in disguise and within one term, they would have sorted out the culprits.” He suggested.

The chairman also appealed to the parents to their children and the type of friends they walked with and advise them accordingly.

He decried the tendency of some parents to abdicate their parental role and lumped the tasks to the teachers in school.

He however, thanked teachers for enduring through various prevailing challenging circumstances in their institutions to ensure learning takes place.

Prof. Onderi cited different circumstances like the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, arsons in some schools as some of the huddles the teachers faced but braved them and stuck to the discharge of their professional duties.

He appealed to the teachers to exhibit similar qualities during the December and New Year festivities by making a follow up to their students to know how they are doing.
