DCI launches investigations into the JKUAT hostel fire

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Juja has launched investigations into Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) hostel fire that left several students hospitalized.

According to the university management the Tuesday 4:00 AM morning fire affected the second floor of Hall 5, one of the students’ main hostels.

In a statement by Patrick Amunavi, Acting Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the fire incident affected about eighty eight (88) students who stay on the second floor of the hostel.

“The students lost personal effects and other valuables. It is unfortunate that such an incident occurred. Few students sustained minor injuries and have been treated in hospital and released.  Only three are currently under observation at the university hospital,” part of the statement read.

The management has made necessary arrangements to provide support to the students including counseling services and alternative accommodation.

The University Management reassured all students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders that the safety and security of the students in JKUAT is of utmost priority.

The university therefore has enhanced security surveillance measures in and around the institution to ensure that all students and staff are safe.

The management said the university’s programs and activities will continue as per the semester schedule.
