Day schools to close, boarding schools to operate during Kakamega, Mombasa elections

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has directed that all day schools in Mombasa and Kakamega counties and six other areas where pending elections will be held, to be closed on Monday August 29, 2022 and resume on Tuesday August 30, 2022.

Prof. Magoha who gave the directive today further stated that boarding schools in the said areas will not be closed when the elections will be taking place.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) under the Chairmanship of Wafula Chebukati yesterday, August 22, 2022 announced August 29, 2022 as the new date for the postponed elections in various parts of the country.

Governorship elections in Mombasa and Kakamega counties were among the eight elections that IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati postponed.

The other six are Member of the National Assembly polls in Kitui Rural Constituency (Kitui County), Kacheliba Constituency (West Pokot County), Pokot South Constituency (West Pokot County) and Rongai Constituency (Nakuru County).

Elections for Member of County Assembly Wards have also been postponed in Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency – Nairobi County) and Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency – Meru County).
