Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati has expressed concern over the little money paid to Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Kisii county.
Speaking during a public gathering at Nyamache stadium in Kisii county, the legislator argued that ECDE teachers with Diploma in Education needed to earn equal amounts of salaries like their counterparts in secondary schools.
‘ECDE teachers get demoralized when they aren’t motivated,’ argued Arati, who has an interest in vying for the Kisii gubernatorial seat.
He further asked the residents to register as voters in big numbers so as to elect credible leaders of their own choice.
‘Students above 18 years should register for national Identity Cards so that they can participate in this year’s national elections exercise,’ he asked
Arati expressed regret over the poor voting systems in Kisii county which have been characterized by handout.
‘These handouts blind the electorate who end up electing non performing leaders,’ he said.
He also asked the public to elect leaders who will initiate and steer education development because it is the only strong way of changing the world.
He narrated how he came from a poor background and how he pursued education with determination so that he succeeds.
‘I studied at Rogongo and Nyamache secondary schools but had to drop out of school because of poverty. I tried my fortune elsewhere so that I can continue my education,’ he briefed.
Arati asked parents to invest more in the education of their children. He also said that quality education is the best bait to attract meaningful developments in the region.
