Curriculum reforms to equip learners with practical skills, Education PS says

The Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr Belio Kipsang has applauded the Government effort in prioritising curriculum reforms as a way of empowering young Kenyans with competitive skills for the industrialising world.

Speaking during the stakeholders’ engagement on Senior School and Teacher Education on Wednesday April 3, the PS said the CBC has been under implementation since 2019 and is currently at Grade 8 in Junior School.

“Equally, the Competency Based Diploma in Teacher Education programmes for Early Childhood Development, Primary and Secondary levels are being offered in our public and private teacher training colleges,” he said.

“The Government is dedicated in ensuring a smooth implementation of the CBC curriculum,” he added.

He added that the Ministry of Education will ensure that learners are equipped with practical skills and competencies aligning with the industry and a seamless transition to higher education level or the world of work.

The CBC has been reviewed at various levels as per the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform (PWPER) recommendations.

The PWPER was formed in 2022 by President William Ruto.
