Virtual science symposium on data collection to be streamed tomorrow by CUK

Participants of a Science symposium. CUE is organizing a Science virtual symposium.

The Cooperative University of Kenya (CUK) will stream a virtual postgraduate symposium organized by the School of Computing and Mathematics tomorrow, Friday November 10, 2023.

The inaugural postgraduate symposium targets all postgraduate students at the university, those from other universities and any other interested participants.

Prof.John Kihoro, Director of Academic Quality Assurance at the university, will be speaking on how to prepare for data collection in social sciences, while Dr. Shem Mbandu, Dean of the school, will deal with how to prepare for data collection in the pure and applied sciences.

“We are pleased to announce our first annual math and computer science symposium on two topics: how to prepare for the data collection process in the pure and applied sciences and the data collection process in the social sciences,” the post read.

The symposium is designed to expose students to the scientific data collection process in the two areas.

The school has been working to address the need for the process of preparing to collect data in the pure and applied sciences as well as the social sciences.

Pure sciences deal primarily with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, while social sciences refer to subjects relating to human behaviour such as Sociology, Psychology and Anthropology.

The scientific method as applied to the social sciences entails a variety of research approaches, tools and techniques for collecting and analyzing qualitative or quantitative data.
