Curriculum Support Officers, (CSOs) across the country have come out to implore upon the Teachers Service Commission, (TSC) to solemnly remember them after successfully overseeing promotion and recruitment of thousands of teachers for the past two years.

Speaking to Education news after Education committee gave TSC a green light to promote over 23,000 teachers it had stopped due to queries, John one of the senior CSO in the commission, claimed that CSOs seem to be overlooked since they possess bate qualities  as they are neither placed in the secretariat nor within the teaching force

“We should not be midwifing upward mobility of our teachers and remain in the same grade for decades”, argued John one of the senior Cso in the commission.

The other general feeling among Csos is that they are neglected on promotional matters because they don’t sign performance contract (PC) like the secretariat staff and the school administrators.

While conducting an entry meeting in one of the counties in Rift valley region, TSC auditors were shocked to learn that unlike the other TSC staff, Csos in the country are not subjected to performance contract.

“How are you then promoted without performance contract?” asked the officer.

Education news has learnt that Csos are normally given minimal promotion vacancies for upward mobility a situation that has seen majority of them stagnate for years.

“When the commission gives us only 92 slots for principal teacher management officers, that is tantamount to telling us our path to upward mobility is bumpy and with little hopes” argued Agness,a senior Cso.

The Csos are however optimistic of a luminous future after the retirement of Dr Nancy macharia who, according to most of them, overlooked their role as the fulcrum of the commission.

“Without Csos, the commission is as good as dead. Our role as Csos can’t be wished away by any serious person as we actualise the commission’s mandate in the field ” ,said one of the Csos official from Northern Kenya.

As teacher replacement exercise continues across the country, Csos are optimistic that the outcome of the exercise will bolster their chances of being appraised towards promotion. They say that it was their expectations that the commission was to put up an advert for their promotions.
