The Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has refuted the claims of the existence of ghost schools, saying that the Ksh 1.1 billion figures reported is the money for the schools which submitted the required verification data to the Ministry of Education late before appearing in Parliament.

Speaking in Kisauni, Mombasa County during the examination container opening exercise, CS said MoE is compiling the report on the matter of ghost schools that have been receiving billions from the government and will be release it on Friday, November 14

“We did not say that there are ghost schools. What I indicated in parliament is that at the time I was in parliament that day, we had not released Ksh 1.1 Billion to the schools that had not submitted the data.”Ogamba said.

He added that the ministry decided to release 50 per cent of the capitation money to 990 schools that had presented their data and withhold the money for rest.
