Nyakach Girls’ High School in Kisumu County has received a major infrastructure boost after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba officially commissioned a new 750-bed dormitory at the learning institution.
During the commissioning, Ogamba stated that the development marks a significant milestone in the government’s effort to expand boarding facilities and create a safer, more conducive learning environment for learners.
The CS launched several school infrastructure development projects on an official tour of Kisumu and Nyamira counties.
He emphasised that the dormitory is crucial as the country prepares to transition the first cohort of learners from Junior School to Senior School under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) next year.
“We are excited that this dormitory has been completed, as we are preparing to admit the first cohort of students under the Competency-Based Education to Senior School next year.
This dormitory is a massive achievement in the context of the 100 percent transition policy to Senior School,” Ogamba stated.

“This dormitory we are opening is a massive achievement in the context of the 100 per cent transition policy to Senior School espoused by the Government.”
The CS said the dormitory would allow the school to admit more students, meaning the enrollment would surpass the current 2858 students.
The CS noted that the government is determined to fully address the concerns about the transition from Junior School to Senior School.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening education systems and infrastructure, adding that the Ministry is focused on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning under the CBE framework.
“To ensure quality education, the government has recruited 76,000 teachers over the past two years, as President Dr William Ruto announced during the Labour Day celebrations,” he said.
Ogamba announced that Sh2.4 billion has been allocated to recruit an additional 20,000 intern teachers starting January 2026, a move aimed at improving learning outcomes nationwide.
Additionally, Sh2.6 billion will be used to support teacher promotions and provide capacity-building programmes to align teaching methods with the CBE curriculum.
The CS also assured school heads that the government would disburse Sh21 billion in capitation funds to all public schools by next week to facilitate smooth operations for the second term.
