Construction of the main campus of Koitalel Samoei University College in Nandi Hills is set to be completed by November this year, paving the way for students to occupy the facility by December.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has confirmed that the project, which had previously stalled, is now back on track and progressing steadily under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Today, I passed by to assess the progress of this project in terms of construction works. The project is moving on well. As you know, it had stalled before it was revived. The progress is good, and we are at 40 per cent construction progress,” said the CS during an inspection tour.
Ogamba emphasised the government’s commitment to reviving and completing stalled projects nationwide, noting that university development is a key investment in expanding access to higher education.
“This project is important in ensuring more students have access to quality university education,” he said.
The CS revealed that the institution currently has about 4,500 students, with the Ministry of Education targeting an increase to 6,000 learners once the main campus becomes fully operational.
He assured stakeholders that the facility would be fully equipped before students were allowed to move in.

“By December this year, the building will be occupied once we ensure that it is equipped,” he stated.
According to Ogamba, the completion of the main campus will also lead to the reorganisation of academic programmes, with the Mosoriot Campus set to specialise in education and commerce, while the Nandi Hills Campus will host a broader range of programmes.
The new facility is expected to accommodate up to 1,500 students and significantly improve learning conditions.
University Principal Winstone Akala welcomed the progress, noting that the expanded infrastructure will enhance academic delivery and student experience.

“We are optimistic that this development will greatly improve our capacity to deliver quality education and serve more students,” he said.
Ogamba added that the project will also stimulate economic growth in the region.

“The completion of this project will boost local economic activities and create opportunities for residents of Nandi Hills and surrounding areas,” he noted.
During the inspection, the CS was accompanied by Wilberforce Kilonzo, Ngalia Ndaya, and other local administrators and security officials.
Residents and leaders have welcomed the renewed momentum, expressing optimism that the long-awaited project will soon deliver its intended benefits to both students and the wider community.
