Cabinet Secretary for Education Julius Ogamba has urged parents to support the education of their children, noting that it is the surest path for them to succeed in life and later support their families in old age.
Speaking at Entanda Primary School in Kitutu Chache North Constituency on Friday during the issuance of Kisii County Education Bursary cheques, Ogamba said education remains the most powerful tool for bridging the gap between children from wealthy and less privileged families.
“It is not all of us who were born equal, but there is a true equalizer, and that is the education I am preaching to you,” he said.

Ogamba emphasized that gaining quality education goes beyond passing examinations. He outlined several key advantages that directly shape both individual lives and the nation’s future.
First, quality education equips learners with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In a competitive world, employers and markets reward those who can analyze challenges and create solutions. These skills also help young people start businesses, innovate in agriculture, and adapt to new technology.

Second, it opens doors to better employment and higher income. Educated individuals qualify for skilled jobs in health, engineering, ICT, and other sectors that drive the economy. With higher earnings, they can break cycles of poverty, improve family living standards, and invest back in their communities.
In addition to promoting social equality, quality education fosters informed citizenship. When children from all backgrounds access good schools, libraries, and trained teachers, the gap between rich and poor narrows. Educated citizens are also more likely to participate in governance, understand their rights, and demand accountability from leaders. It also improves health and social outcomes, as studies consistently link higher education levels to better nutrition, lower child mortality, and delayed marriages. Educated parents make informed choices for their families, reducing cases of drug abuse, early pregnancies, and preventable diseases.
Finally, Ogamba noted that quality education builds resilience. A person with knowledge can retrain, migrate for opportunities, or create work when formal jobs are scarce. This adaptability is vital as the job market keeps changing.
The CS thanked President Ruto’s Government for giving priority to education development and asked residents to turn up in large numbers to appreciate him when he visits the region starting tomorrow.

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati said the County Government released 315 million; 7 milion for each of the 45 Wards, to benefit Form 3 and Form 4 applicants. He said the County Education Fund has been increasing the allocation from 3 million shillings to 5 million and has now reached 7 million shillings for each ward. He expressed hope of reaching their set target of 10 million shillings per ward next year.
He asked Members of the County Assembly and other leaders from the region to support the broad-based government because it is focused on development.
The CS asked local administrators, teachers, and bursary committees to ensure the funds benefit the most deserving learners and are released on time to avoid disrupting studies. He also challenged the beneficiaries to work hard, reminding them that the bursary is an investment the county expects returns from through good performance and discipline.
The event was attended by parents, teachers, and local leaders who welcomed the disbursement, saying it would ease the burden of school fees for hundreds of households in the constituency.
